Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of ACTH(4-10), originally developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It upregulates brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB, potentiates dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission, and modulates the HPA axis. Research applications include cognitive enhancement, neuroprotection, attention and memory improvement, and stroke recovery models. Supplied as an intranasal solution for direct CNS bioavailability research.
