Research summary
Bremelanotide has been evaluated in published clinical trials and has regulatory approval in some regions under a licensed medicinal product for a specific indication. Our research-grade material is a separate product and is not a medicine. This summary describes what the literature has investigated. It is not a claim about the effects of our product, which is supplied for laboratory research only.
Mechanism of action
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide that is a metabolite-derived analogue of Melanotan-2. It acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, with activity at MC3R and MC4R that has been linked to central nervous system pathways involved in sexual arousal in published work.
Chemical properties
Structure: cyclic heptapeptide (Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH). Molecular formula: C50H68N14O10. Molecular weight: approx. 1025.2 g/mol. Form: lyophilised powder. Purity and identity: see the batch Certificate of Analysis (HPLC and mass spectrometry).
Storage and handling
Supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder. Store sealed, cold, dry and protected from light, as stated on the Certificate of Analysis and product label. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to limit condensation. Avoid repeated temperature cycling and humidity exposure. For laboratory research use only.
