Research summary
MOTS-c research is mostly preclinical, with studies in mice on glucose and fat metabolism, exercise and ageing, and some observational human work on circulating levels. This summary describes what the literature has investigated. It is not a claim about the effects of our product, which is supplied for laboratory research only.
Mechanism of action
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, classed as a mitochondrial-derived peptide. Published work in cells and mice reports that it activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signalling, influences folate and purine metabolism, and can translocate to the nucleus under metabolic stress.
Chemical properties
Sequence: Met-Arg-Trp-Gln-Glu-Met-Gly-Tyr-Ile-Phe-Tyr-Pro-Arg-Lys-Leu-Arg (16 residues). Molecular weight: approx. 2174.6 g/mol. Form: lyophilised powder. Purity and identity: see the batch Certificate of Analysis (HPLC and mass spectrometry).
Storage and handling
Supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder. Store sealed, cold, dry and protected from light, as stated on the Certificate of Analysis and product label. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to limit condensation. Avoid repeated temperature cycling and humidity exposure. For laboratory research use only.
