Research summary
Tirzepatide has been studied in a large programme of published clinical trials in type 2 diabetes and obesity, and it is approved as a medicine in some regions under licensed brand-name products. Our research-grade material is a separate product and is not a medicine. This summary describes what the literature has investigated. It is not a claim about the effects of our product, which is supplied for laboratory research only.
Mechanism of action
Tirzepatide is a synthetic 39-amino-acid peptide with a fatty diacid side chain that acts as a dual agonist at the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. Both receptors are involved in insulin secretion and appetite regulation.
Chemical properties
Class: synthetic 39-residue peptide with a C20 fatty diacid modification, dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist. Form: pre-filled pen. Exact sequence, molecular weight, purity, identity and content: see the batch Certificate of Analysis.
Storage and handling
Supplied as a pre-filled pen. Store as stated on the product label and Certificate of Analysis, typically cold and protected from light. Avoid freezing and repeated temperature cycling unless the label states otherwise. For laboratory research use only.
