Research summary
Semax has been studied in animal models of cerebral ischaemia and cognition and in clinical settings in Russia, with limited independent replication. It is not approved by major Western regulators. This summary describes what the literature has investigated. It is not a claim about the effects of our product, which is supplied for laboratory research only.
Mechanism of action
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) based on the ACTH(4-10) fragment, with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail that increases stability. It lacks the hormonal activity of ACTH. Published work, mainly from Russian research groups, has examined effects on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression and on neurotransmitter systems in animal models.
Chemical properties
Sequence: Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (7 residues). Molecular formula: C37H51N9O10S. Molecular weight: approx. 813.9 g/mol. Form: lyophilised powder. Purity and identity: see the batch Certificate of Analysis (HPLC and mass spectrometry).
Storage and handling
Supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder. Store sealed, cold, dry and protected from light, as stated on the Certificate of Analysis and product label. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to limit condensation. Avoid repeated temperature cycling and humidity exposure. For laboratory research use only.
